PEOPLE & SOCIETY

The individual contribution was a major factor for the successful organization of the Olympic Games. Some persons contributed by conceiving the idea of the revival; others by financing the Games and the construction of sport facilities; others by participating in the Games as athletes. This part of the text is dedicated to Greek contributors and athletes of different times who strongly believed in the spirit of noble contest and the Olympic ideals.

Along the individual human effort, social conditions in 19th century were specially right to accept the Olympic ideals. Two main issues of 19th c. were the introduction of gymnastics in education and the debate around amateurism.
